Air Intake!

Here is my custom made 3.5" air intake. It works so well I picked up about a mph and dropped 2 tenths over the throttle body mounted air filter I used to run.

Materials used:

1) large piece of sheet metal

2) Impala SS elbow

3) 2-1/4" pipe cap

4) 3.5 inch pipe about 2 feet long

5) TB mounted K&N filter(#RC-5000)

6) Hose clamps, screws and tape

First off measure out a section of the sheet metal that will be long enough to connect the throttle body and the elbow. Next cut the section and sort of roll it around the throttle body. Try and get it formed as the same shape as the opening on the TB. You may need to trim it down as you just want enough to make the roll and make sure it overlaps so you can hold it together with some screws. Next, take the screws and fasten the overlapping part together. Then, seal off the inside with some tape or silicone so it won't leak. Next take the SS elbow and plug off the 2-1/4" hole where the air silencer used to connect to. I used a pipe cap to plug mine...you might use something else. Clamp it tight to get a good seal. Next is the tricky part. I had a friend make me a piece of 3.5 inch aluminum pipe about 2 feet long. You could probably use a 3.5" PVC pipe or exhaust pipe for yours. I trial fit everything including the filter too see how much of the pipe and the rolled sheet metal I needed to cut off. I needed enough room to clear the air compressor and enough to keep the filter from getting squashed under the hood. Also, for more hood clearance, you will need to make a small dent in the pipe for the radiator reservoir hose and radiator bracket. Once I determined the correct lengths and cut them, I bolted up everything using hose clamps. To finish off the appearance, I polished everything to match the other polished goodies!! Good luck with yours as I've had with mine!!
